Hobart Huson. El Copano, the Ancient Port of Bexar and La Bahia. Refugio: The Refugio Timely Remarks, 1935. First edition. Inscribed by the author on the inside front wrapper: "To Lyman Brightman Russell Esq. a pioneer of early Refugio County and one of the most unusual and interesting personages it has been my pleasure to know. Hobart Huson San Antonio Dec. 7, 1935". Octavo. [iv], [1]-64 pages. Maps. illustrations, index. Original printed wrappers.

An early book by the eminent historian of Refugio and Goliad counties. El Copano (the marshes and estuaries around Copano Bay and Mission Bay) served as the port of entry during the Spanish period of Texas. Huson examines the importance of this region of the Texas coast from pre-Columbian times until 1880. A very scarce item, made more so by its association with Lyman Russell (1850-1940), a noted Texas newspaper editor and author.

Condition: Small 3" portion of lower wrap and front free endpaper lacking, light toning to pages, else very good condition.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
