George Catlin. Catlin's Notes of Eight Years' Travels and Residence in Europe with his North American Indian Collection. London: Published by the Author, 1848. First edition, presentation copy, inscribed by the author in volume I on the front free endpaper: "To Mr. Davidson. / With compliments of / The Author. / Geo. Catlin. / 1848." Two octavo volumes. xvi, 296; xii, 336 pages. Complete with twenty-four plates inserted throughout, with small text slip inserted facing page 302 in volume II, and with one ad leaf inserted at the rear hinge of volume II. Publisher's full brown cloth, boards decoratively ruled and paneled in blind, front boards with gilt central decoration of Catlin shaking hands with a Native American, spines ruled in blind and lettered in gilt. Both volumes rebacked preserving the original spines, spines uniformly sunned, some rubbing, soiling and bumping to boards, bookseller's tickets to front pastedowns, front pastedown of volume I has a small dealer's description affixed, small inkstamp to rear pastedown of volume I and verso of title-page of volume II, hinges repaired, rear pastedown of volume II is later, sticker residue on rear pastedown of volume. Some minor occasional foxing in text. Still, a very good copy with a rare presentation. Sabin 11533.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
