Tissue guards. Title page in red and black. Publisher's original patterned cloth over printed blue boards. Titles lettered in gilt on the spine. Includes the eleven page appendix "Human Remains from the Cliff Dwellings of the Mesa Verde" by Retzius.

    Ex-library copy with bookplate of the "Forbes Library / Northampton / Mass." on front pastedown, library name punch in title page, library ink stamps on blanks and versos of plates, circulation pocket on rear pastedown. Binding rubbed and soiled, scratched and chipped, boards with edge wear and small dents. Textblock edges scuffed and scratched. Front hinge cracked, rear hinge open (exposing spine). Shaken. Over-opened pages and textblock splits. Title page with a nine-inch vertical tear along the inner margin. Pages with edge wear, few small edge tears and chips. Occasional smudging or soiling. Overall, good or better. Howes N177 [dd].
