Two textual volumes, lacking the atlas. Quarto (8.75 x 5.25 inches). [iv], [1]-5, [6-8], [1]-503, [1, blank]; [vi], 442, xcviii pages. Contemporary sprinkled calf, spines in six compartments, ruled and decoratively stamped in gilt, black, gilt-lettered labels. Spine of volumes one repaired at crown with slightly more extensive work to about the lower-third; boards worn and soiled with thick dark stains to both volumes, perhaps due to a binding agent; first volume front joint cracked, but holding with endpaper nearly detached, rear joint starting; rear joint of Volume II starting. ID numbers written in manuscript ink on the top edge of each text block. Endpapers foxed and soiled. Text block toned with soiling, dampstains and foxing throughout. Good. Howes J40.
