First edition, later issue, with added portrait of Dienst and appreciation leaf by Eugene C. Barker and plate, according to Jenkins supposedly one of 30 such copies issued circa 1940. , 150,  pages (blank leaf between pages 38 and 39). Publisher's maroon cloth with titles lettered in gilt on the spine and front board.
The first and considered by many the best history of the fledgling Texas navy in the revolution and Republic eras. The original 1909 first edition is virtually unobtainable, with only a few copies having been offered for sale in the last forty years.
Condition: Boards with trivial spots; corners lightly abraded; contents with uniform light toning, else near fine.
