    Dorsey Gardner. Quatre Bras, Ligny and Waterloo. London: Kegan Paul, Trench & Co., 1882. First edition. This copy belonging to noted Texas Ranger James B. Gillette. The verso of the flyleaf is stamped in ink "Property of CAPT. J. B. Gillett, / Marfa, TEXAS"; the recto with a long inscription, in ink praising the book and writing, in part: "This is a fine book on the battle of Waterloo...It is a wonderful book worth many times its cost and should interest all students of war. I hope some day my son Milton will be interested enough to read and study this wonderful story. J B Gillett Feb 11th 1929."Octavo. xiii, [1], [1]-515, 32 (publisher's catalog) pages. Publisher's original brick cloth with titles stamped in gilt on the spine.

    James B. Gillett (1856-1937) was a legendary Texas Ranger known for his many Indian fights and gun fights with well-known outlaws such as Sam Bass and Dick Dublin.

    Condition: Fair. Boards worn with a portion of the spine panel absent. Binding shaken. Hinges broken.
