First edition, number 107 of 156 numbered copies signed by Ashley on the limitation page (out of a total edition of 1,625). With a handsome original ink line illustration of a whaling scene by Ashley on a front blank. Folio. 379 pages. Illustrated frontispiece and numerous inserted plates, including over 100 photographic plates printed on glossy paper and bound after the text. Publisher's brown leather over blue paper boards with gilt spine titles. Moderate rubbing to the binding, with noticeable abrading to the bottom corners. Small stain to bottom of front board. Over-opened at the front blank with the illustration. Lightly toned text. A very good copy.
