DescriptionCarlos Maria de Bustamante. El Nuevo Bernal Diaz Del Castillo, ó Sea Historia de la Invasion de Los Anglo-Americanos en Mexico. Mexico: Imprenta de Vicente Garcia Torres, 1847. First edition. Octavo. Spanish text. Two volumes in one. , [1-3], 4-162, ; [1-3], 4-235 [1, blank], [4, index] pages. Rebacked using a small portion of the original leather spine, over contemporary marbled boards.
"This is undoubtedly one of the best contemporary accounts of the Mexican War. Volume I deals almost exclusively with the background to the war, while the second volume focuses on the internal politics of Mexico during the war. Includes the text of several of Paredes' manifestos. Omits any systematic treatment of the military phases of the war and has little to say about causes other than the United States was guilty of aggression against Mexico because of annexing Texas." (Tutorow).
Condition: Boards scuffed and abraded at the extremities; front hinge broken with loose front board; rear hinge starting; contents uniformly toned; some signatures a bit loose, still a good copy of this important work.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.View More Testimonials
