Description

From the Collection of New Jersey Governor Mahlon Dickerson

Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay. The Federalist, on the New Constitution. Washington: Jacob Gideon, Jun., 1818.

New Edition, with the Madison articles newly edited by him. With the ownership signature of Mahlon Dickerson on the first blank. Octavo. [672] pages.

Bound to period style in modern full tan calf, covers ruled in brown, spine ruled in gilt, with original label affixed. Original endpapers preserved. Some light wear to spine label, some toning, thumbsoiling and foxing in text. Still, a near fine copy with an excellent association.

Mahlon Dickerson (1770-1853) had a distinguished career in public service. He was a judge, a twice-appointed Secretary of the Navy, a United States Senator, and the Governor of New Jersey.
