    Important Work on the
    American Revolutionary War

Alexander Garden. Anecdotes of the Revolutionary War in America, With Sketches of Character of Persons the Most Distinguished, in the Southern States, for Civil and Military Services. Charleston: Printed for the author by A. E. Miller, 1822. First edition of the first series. Octavo. xi, 459 (including errata and nine page subscriber's list) pages. Publisher's original paper over boards. Boards soiled and damp stained; spine lacking small sections at the ends; boards nearly detached; major foxing to the contents; book worm traces through the table of contents section, poor condition. The author was a lieutenant in Lee's Legions and became aide-de-camp to General Greene. He saw active service until December, 1782. His work contains much original information. The characters and incidents are chiefly South Carolinian but there is also other material, picked up during his trips north and abroad. The volumes are a valuable source for the Revolution. Howes G61, Sabin 26597, Church 1321.
