Alex Dienst. The Navy of the Republic of Texas. Temple, Texas: [privately printed], 1909. First edition, limited to fifty copies, of which this is number seven, for friends of the author and Public Libraries of Texas, as stated in a hand-written limitation on the front pastedown; this copy presented to Dr. R. R. White of Scott and White Medical Center. Octavo. [ii], 150, [4, blank] pages. Recent brown leatherette, front board lettered in gilt; stamped illustration in gilt on cloth, which appears to be from the original binding, affixed to front pastedown; first blank with Dienst's bookplate and a large star stamped in gilt. Touches of wear to binding at corners and spine ends with mild wear to front joint revealing red cloth underneath. Mild, uniform toning to text block. Near fine. This copy lacking the introduction, index and blank leaf between pages 38 and 39 as cited in Basic Texas Books. Limitation statement counter to the twenty stated in other copies. John Jenkins called this "One of the great Texana rarities" [Basic Texas Books, 42]. From the private collection of Stephen Lyle Boyd.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
