Description[Whiskey Rebellion]. William Findley. History of the Insurrection, in ... Pennsylvania... Philadelphia: 1796. First edition.
[Whiskey Rebellion]. William Findley. History of the Insurrection, in the Four Western Counties of Pennsylvania... Philadelphia: Samuel Harrison Smith, 1796. First edition of this rare account of the Whiskey Rebellion. Octavo. 328 pages. In the rare publisher's original plain paper boards and paper backstrip, later printed paper spine label. Binding toned and slightly soiled and worn, hinges starting, some foxing in text, several leaves trimmed at fore-edge a bit close (no loss of text). Still, a fine copy of this rare account of the Whiskey Rebellion.
"Findley was one of the most prominent men identified with the Whiskey Insurrection... Feeling... that the tax on whiskey was exorbitant and unjust, he encouraged open resistance to the government at first. Later... he counseled moderation... In 1796 he published [the above work], in which he attempted to vindicate his own position as well as to furnish an... apology for those who participated..." (DAB).
