The document concerns the Adams-Onís Treaty (Florida Purchase) negotiated by Secretary of State John Quincy Adams and Spanish minister Luis de Onís, in which Spain gave up land west of the Mississippi River and claims to the Oregon Territory for which the United Stated assumed debts of five million dollars and gave up parts of Spanish Texas.
