With twelve illustrations by Tom Lea. Publisher's cream cloth with titles stamped in brown ink. Dust jacket. Closed tear and slight toning to jacket, else a fine copy.

    "Regarded by many as the greatest of the Lea-Hertzog collaborations, this book was eight years in the making. In 1938 Tom Lea conceived the idea as a means to acquaint El Pasoans with their community's colorful history" (Lowman, page 21). Full-page portraits by Tom Lea of Cabeza de Vaca, Espejo, Zebulon Pike, Big Foot Wallace, and eight others, with written commentary.
