    More Information:

[Robert Walsh, editor]. The American Review of History and Politics and General Repository of Literature and State Papers. Philadelphia: Printed for Farrand and Nicholas, 1811-1812. First edition. Four octavo volumes.

Original half calf over marbled boards. Red leather labels on spines, gilt circular devices in flat compartments, gilt ruled. Volume one with fold-out chart present. Wear and rubbing to covers, joints tender and boards a bit loose, but holding, internal scattered foxing, volume four with more wear to binding and measuring a bit shorter than the other volumes. Overall a very pleasing set of a scarce early American publication edited by Robert Walsh.

Interesting essays can be found on a cross-section of topics of the times such as the War of 1812, Napoleon and, in particular, an essay entitled "Essay On the Causes of the Variety of Complexion and Figure In the Human Species", which reads like an early pre-Darwin discussion of evolution. This set signed in all four volumes by Fisher A. Blocksom (and in one volume by the previous owner, Samuel Root). Blocksom arrived in Ohio on horseback in 1805 and was the first lawyer to make a residence there. For several years he was Prosecuting Attorney of the County. He was Representative to the General Assembly from 1826-1828, and again from 1831-1833. From 1847-1851 he served as State Senator. He died in 1876 at age 95. A historically significant provenance of a scarce publication.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
