Large 8vo. Frontispiece portrait of George Washington, numerous illustrations. Original green cloth, spine and front board stamped and decorated in gilt.

FIRST EDITION. SIGNED AND DATED BY THE AUTHOR AS PRESIDENT on the front free endpaper: "Woodrow Wilson / 25 December, 1915."

Prior to becoming president of the United States, Woodrow Wilson studied history and political science, earning his PhD in 1886. His thesis was titled Congressional Government: A Study in American Politics. As a professor of law and political economy at Princeton, he published nine books, including the present title.

Condition: Gilt on spine rubbed and faded; corners just rubbed; spine ends pushed and slightly frayed; light stain to rear cover; front hinge expertly reinforced; light staining and abrasions to front endpapers (apparently where bookplate removed).
