Large folio (15.5 x 12 inches; 393 x 305 mm.). [2], 124 pages. A very good collection of autograph letters and documents signed by the presidents from Washington through Hoover, inserted into this copy. Letters and documents neatly tipped to guards, some folded; also loosely inserted is a typed letter signed by Dwight D. Eisenhower, 24 June 1953, thanking L. F. Bachrach for photographs. Full red morocco professionally rebacked in strict sympathy with original spine, utilizing highly similar leather. Three double-fillet gilt borders, gilt title and gilt Great Seal of the United States centerpiece on front board, spine ruled and lettered in gilt in compartments, gilt board edges, gilt red morocco doublures, marbled free endpapers, top edge gilt. Scattered light foxing and repairs. Fourth front free endpaper crudely detached. Overall a very good copy in a red pebble-grained cloth slipcase.

    The documents comprise: George Washington, Continental Army Discharge Certificate signed ("Go: Washington"), 9 June 1783, for Anthony Bromer, "Fifer." - John Adams, Military Land Grant signed, 22 April 1800, for 1,000 acres to Willis Wilson. - Thomas Jefferson, Naval Appointment signed ("Th: Jefferson"), 16 January 1809, appointing Henry Gilliam a midshipman. - James Madison, General Land Office Patent signed, 7 December 1815, for land between the Miami Rivers for John H. Piatt. - James Monroe, General Land Office Patent signed, 31 December 1819, for land near Jeffersonville for Noah Bondruvant. - Certification of Commercial Appointment signed ("J. Q. Adams"), 29 December 1820. - Andrew Jackson, Military Appointment signed, 1 July 1834, conferring on Captain Thomas Staniford the rank of Major by Brevet. - Martin Van Buren, autograph letter signed ("M. Van Buren"), Oswego, 29 July 1856, to James Marwin, booking rooms at a Saratoga hotel. - William Henry Harrison, Subsistence Account Certificate signed ("Willm Henry Harrison"), 30 June 1813. - John Tyler, Naval Appointment signed, appointing John H. Tillotson a midshipman. - James K. Polk, Warrant signed, to Affix the Seal of the United States to "the pardon of Virgil M. Rose." - Zachary Taylor, Ship's Passport signed ("Z Taylor"), 16 November 1849, for the ship Hannibal. - Millard Fillmore, autograph letter signed, no place, 14 July, no year, to Daniel Webster, being a letter of introduction. - Franklin Pierce, Warrant signed, to Affix the Seal of the United States to "the pardon granted to John G. Thurmand." - James Buchanan, letter signed, Washington, 24 June 1848, to John Read, regarding a military discharge. - Abraham Lincoln, Military Appointment signed, 29 January 1863, appointing Myles Moylan a second lieutenant of cavalry. - Andrew Johnson, Warrant signed, to Affix the Seal of the United States to "a Warrant for the pardon of John F. Brown." - Ulysses S. Grant, Warrant signed with a stamped signature, to Affix the Seal of the United States to a pardon. - Rutherford B. Hayes, autograph letter signed ("R. B. Hayes"), Fremont, 7 December 1875, to Mr. Hart. - James A. Garfield, letter signed ("J. A. Garfield"), Mentor, 2 December 1880, to George Morse, acknowledging his congratulations on winning the presidency. - Chester A. Arthur, letter signed ("C A Arthur"), New York, 19 November 1880, to E. E. Williamson, acknowledging his congratulations on winning the vice presidency. - Grover Cleveland, typed letter signed, Buzzards Bay, Mass., 27 September 1892, to Walter Beecher, thanking him for campaign literature. - Benjamin Harrison, Civil Appointment signed ("Benjn Harrison"), appointing Paul E. Johnson a Notary Public. - William McKinley, typed letter signed ("Wm McKinley"), Canton, 11 August 1896, to M. J. Brown, regarding campaign literature. - Theodore Roosevelt, typed letter signed ("T. Roosevelt"), New York, 26 February 1912, to Mr. Raines, thanking him for his correspondence. - William H. Taft, typed letter signed ("Wm H Taft"), Quebec, 22 August 1918, to Frederick Judson. - Woodrow Wilson, typed letter signed, Trenton, 30 January 1913, to L. Irving Reichner, thanking him for his election as an honorary member of the Society of the Claw. - Warren G.
