Description[Oliver G. Steele]. The Western Guide Book, and Emigrant's Directory; Containing General Descriptions and Different Routes Through the States of New York, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and the Territory of Michigan... Buffalo: Published by Oliver G. Steele. Charles Faxon, Printer. 24mo. 90pp, pp. Original printed boards, with cloth backstrip. A scarce second edition, originally published in 1832. The revision was made to include Michigan content. There is a note on the verso of the title page that explains the change in name from "Emigrant's Guide" to "The Western Guide"; "as it contains many alterations, additions, and amendments."
Heavy soiling and wear to boards, cracked joints, but binding remains intact. Foxing throughout. Pencil markings on endpapers and two pages of text (at beginning of book). Clean tear to "Contents" page; and small bits of paper loss not affecting text to last pages of book. A very good copy. Last record for this edition was in 1944 in a dealer catalog.
