Extra-illustrated with tipped-in plates of F. B. Sanborn, John Brown, Thomas H. Higginson, Governor Andrew of Massachusetts, and albumen photos of H. W. Beecher, R. W. Emerson, Amos Branson Alcott, and another gentleman of the era. Half bound in leather over marbled boards with morocco spine label by Sangorski and Sutcliffe. Covers and extremities somewhat rubbed and abraded with repair to hinges and joints. Pages lightly toned. First page of text with a expertly repaired tear across the page. Otherwise, a very good copy of a curious book with additional illustrations of associated notables.
