Folded frontispiece "Map of Lewis and Clark's Track across the Western Portion of North America, from the Mississippi to the Pacific Ocean..." (approximately 7 x 14 inches), drawn and engraved by W. G. Evans. Publisher's embossed maroon cloth with gilt titles on spine. Binding rubbed and lightly soiled, small corner bumps, spine sun faded. Map with edge and fold wear, small fold separations and edge tears, additional creases and bends. Previous owner's signed bookplate of "Alfred S. Watson [?]", small bookshop label on rear pastedown, and bookseller's small pencil notes on endpapers. Pages lightly age toned, few spots of smudging or soiling. Very good copy of volume one.
