Description

[John Updike]. The Lore of Flight. Crescent Books, 1986. Later edition. Presentation copy, inscribed by Updike to his godson, and with an ALS. From the collection of Alexander J. Jemal, Jr.

    More Information:

Inscribed on the front free endpaper: "for Adam French/Merry Christmas!/from his godfather/John Updike/1987". Beneath this inscription is a charming original drawing (presumably by Updike) of holly and berries. Mounted onto the front pastedown (taped at corners) is an autograph letter signed by Updike on personal lined stationery. Approximately 8.5 x 5.5 inches. Some edgewear, else very good. "Dec 20. Dear Adam- I was happy to see Tom and your mother, at a sad occasion, and to hear a little bit about you. The last I knew, you were standing on the streets of Rome talking fluent Italian with the local rough-necks. Now I understand you are flying model airplanes with a lot of older men. This little Christmas present may tell you more about airplanes than you want to know, but it comes to you with a loving heart and every wish for a happy Christmas and a merry New Year from you godfather. John Updike. P. S.: Come see me and Martha some time when you are in this area. Martha's son Ted is in France this year and we're all alone." Large square quarto. 426 pages. Publisher's full blue cloth, stamped in whit on front cover and spine. Binding somewhat bumped and worn. Fair. From the collection of Alexander J. Jemal, Jr.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
