Description

The Rarest of All Haley Books

[J. Evetts Haley]. Ode to Nita by Her Husband. [Canyon (Texas)]: [Carl Hertzog for J. Evetts Haley], 1958. First edition. This copy presented to noted Dallas book reviewer and collector, Lee Milazzo, with a 1976 inscription on the colophon page. Also accompanied by two hand-written notes on Haley's personal letterhead to Milazzo presenting him the book, writing in part: "I think you deserve what you have called "the impossible one"...I hope you will cherish it in memory of my dear Nita". The second note reminds Milazzo that the dedication of the Nita Stewart Haley Memorial Library was approaching and he expected him to attend. Octavo, 15 pages. Frontispiece. Gilt lettering to spine and front board. Clear dust jacket.

Haley had Hertzog print a private edition of 100 copies of this essay in memory of his wife. The book was never offered for sale. Al Lowman (in the Printer at the Pass) considers this title to be the "rarest of all Haley books, reserved for presentation to family members and intimate friends of the Haley family."

    Condition: Fine.

    Reference: Lowman 31.
