The Author's Copy of an Early Economic Evaluation of the California Gold Rush
[Gold Rush]. Michel Chevalier. Les Mines d'Or de la
Californie. [Paris: Journal des Débates, 1849]. A unique
copy, consisting of fifty-two unnumbered leaves of clippings of six
of the author's articles, affixed to rectos of blank pages in a
specially-bound book. Octavo. Contemporary quarter tan sheep over
marbled boards, spine with black gilt morocco lettering label,
ruled in gilt, marbled endleaves. With the author's bookplate on
the front pastedown. Some rubbing, soiling to binding, additional
bookplate above the author's on the front pastedown. Fine.
Chevalier (1806-1879) was a French economist and took an interest in the California Gold Rush and the economic effects it might have. This work is an important precursor to the ideas explored in his The Probable Fall in the Value of Gold and Social Consequences Which May Ensue and the Measures Which it Invites, in which he decries the over-abundance of gold, and suggests it be decoupled from currency. This book is a unique compilation, made for the author's own collection.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
HA.com receives more traffic than any other auction house website. (Source: Similarweb.com)
