New York: S. Appleton, 1848. First edition. A presentation copy to Franklin Pierce, with a bookplate on the front pastedown from the editor stating: "Presented to Hon. W.F. Pierce by E.F. Campbell, Sr." Additionally a map sketched in pencil on the RFEP has been attributed to Pierce. Octavo. Publisher's blind-stamped cloth, rebacked, with original spine laid down. Rubbing to extremities. Scattered foxing to textblock. Ink ownership stamp to FFEP. Ink note to rear pastedown attributing the pencil map to Pierce. A very good copy with a delightful history.
