Plates: "Camp of a Regiment of Infantry" backed with "Camp of a Regiment of Five Squadrons of Cavalry". Numerous examples of forms and reports. Publisher's original brown leather spine over gray paper boards. Titles printed in black on the spine. Binding worn but holding; contents toned with some occasional light to heavy foxing; a few burn marks on the front free endpaper, otherwise internally solid and in good condition. This copy with a war-date ownership inscription on the front pastedown "Jas. H. Alexander / Capt.& Signal Officer / Richmond Va / June 1862". James Hillhouse Alexander enlisted on June 11, 1861 as a private. He was promoted to Captain May 29, 1862 and served as a signal officer in the 11th Georgia Light Artillery.
