[Colorado]. Jefferson Territory. Letter from the Delegate Elect from the Proposed Territory of Jefferson. [Washington, D.C., GPO], 1860. First edition. House of Representatives issue, "Mis. Doc. No. 10." 36th Congress, 1st session. Octavo. 15, [1, blank] pages. Disbound signature. Some minor wear to left margins (from where signature was excised from a book). Still, very good.
This unusual petition, sent Beverley D. Williams to represent the Jefferson Territory in Congress, petitioning them to grant official territorial status, extinguish the local Native American tribes, land surveys and sales, a railroad to the Rocky Mountains, postal service, an assay office, and a geographical survey. An important document in the early history of Colorado.
