Description[Civil War] Two Items from the Louisiana Secession Convention including: Official Journal of the Proceedings of the Convention of the State of Louisiana by Authority. New Orleans: J. O. Nixon, Printer to the State Convention, 1861. 330 pages, 8vo. Publisher's green leather over boards with marbled endsheets. Floral pattern and title, "Proceedings of the Louisiana State Convention," in gilt on the spine; gilt borders on boards. Four raised bands on the spine. Page 17, dated January 26, 1861, reads in part:
"We, the people of the State of Louisiana, in Convention assembled, do declare and ordain, and it is hereby declared and ordained...all laws and ordinances by which the State of Louisiana became a member of the Federal Union, be and the same are hereby repealed and abrogated; and that the union now subsisting between Louisiana and other States, under the name of "The United States of America," is hereby dissolved."
Minor shelf wear; heavy toning on the pages, but the text remains unaffected and easily legible. [and:] Roll of State Convention. One page, 14" x 19", New Orleans, 1861. List of delegates to the Secession Convention printed in two columns, one being delegates name and the other his county of residence. On blue paper. Fold creases are stained slightly and there is chipping at the intersection of the left edge and horizontal fold crease. Top edge and bottom right corner also stained. Fine condition.
