[Carl Hertzog]. INSCRIBED BY HERTZOG TO J. EVETTS HALEY & SIGNED BY JOSÉ CISNEROS]. J. Frank Dobie. Trans Pecos. El Paso: Carl Hertzog, 1955. Edition not stated, presumed first. One large sheet folded twice, with booklet measuring 10 x 6.5 inches. Unpaginated. Two pages of text. Extract from Dobie's Vaquero of the Brush Country, printed by Hertzog as Number Nine of the Southwest Broadsides for the friends of Lawrence Clark Powell. Map on front cover by José Cisneros. Original cream pictorial wrappers. Browning around edges. Split along spine fold. Lengthy inscription to J. Evetts Haley by Hertzog on rear wrapper; also signed by Cisneros on front wrapper, beneath his map. Very good. Lowman 313.

Hertzog's inscription, in full, reads: "Evetts: There is no use denying: folks in California have more appreciation for good printing than in Texas. So when Dr. Powell asked me to do a broadside in his series I couldn't say No. Frank seemed very much on the ball in this quote." Beneath the colophon mentioning Lawrence Clark Powell, Hertzog has drawn an arrow pointing at his name and has written "librarian of U. of Calif. at L.A."
