Description

A Collection of Seven Bookplates from
    American Presidents or Their Relations,
    Including James Monroe, Theodore Roosevelt
    and Woodrow Wilson

[Bookplates]. Collection of Seven Bookplates from American Presidents or Their Relations. [N.p., n.d.] All bookplates attractively matted, framed and glazed in three separate frames. Frames range in size from 10.75 x 18.75 to 13.75 x 10 inches. Bookplates included are: James A. Garfield, Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, James Monroe, William Short (Thomas Jefferson's personal secretary), Thomas Jefferson Randolph (Thomas Jefferson's grandson), and Charles Francis Adams (grandson to James Adams, who adapted Adams' personal bookplate design for his bookplate).
It is unusual that Thomas Jefferson, the most avid book collector of any president, never had his own bookplate (he would generally write "T. Jefferson" in his books to identify them). Of course, his collection went on to become the foundation of The Library of Congress.
From the James M. Goode Collection of Bookplates.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
