Johnson, 1776. First English edition. [ii], 42 pages. All octavo-sized tracts bound together. Approximately 7.5 x 4.75 inches. Contemporary full calf, spine ruled in gilt, burgundy gilt morocco lettering label. Binding worn, spine lacking head- and tail-caps, joints cracked, some toning, foxing, soiling in text, upper margins of Common Sense a bit close. Still, very good. These tracts, which sold with great success in America, were likewise very popular in England, whose populace were also greatly interested in colonial events. An excellent collection of the highest interest to the Americana collector.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
