[Alexander Hamilton; James Madison; and John Jay]. Le Fédéraliste, ou Collection de quelques Écrits en faveur de la Constitution proposée aux États-Unis de l'Amérique, par la Convention convoquée en 1787. Paris: Chez Buisson, 1792. First French Edition, and second edition overall, of Hamilton, Madison and Jay's celebrated collection of articles supporting the ratification of the United States Constitution, and the first edition to identify the previously anonymous authors. Variant issue, omitting the introduction by the French Translator M. Trudaine de la Sablière, Jay is spelled incorrectly as "Gay" on the title pages. Volume II with 511 pages, though Sabin calls for 506. Two octavo volumes (7 11/16 x 4.75 inches; 195 x 120 mm.). Half-titles present. [v], xxii-lii, 366; [iv], 1-511 [512, blank] pages. Contemporary mottled calf boards, attractively and expertly rebacked, backstrips tooled and lettered in gilt, board edges gilt, marbled endpapers. Boards with some pitting and scrapes, but still very handsome. Occasional light foxing and soiling, faint dampstain to lower fore-edge margin on about fifty or so terminal leaves of volume II. Altogether, a near fine copy of this early edition of The Federalist Papers. Sabin 23993. Printing and the Mind of Man, 234.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
