The Jubilee Singers were an African-American choir organized in 1871 to provide a source of revenue to combat Fisk University's growing financial problems. Their a cappella renditions of traditional spirituals popularized the genre with white audiences in the late 19th Century. These works contain the music and lyrics to songs sung by the choir and include standards such as "Nobody Knows the Trouble I See, Lord" and "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot".
