Description

Alexander Hamilton. The Works of Alexander Hamilton: Comprising His Most Important Official Reports; .....Vol. I. New York: Published by Williams and Whiting, 1810. First edition of Hamilton's works. Volume I only of three octavo volumes. Overall very good.

    More Information:

Vol I: vii, [1, blank], [1, contents], [1, blank], 325, [1, blank]. With engraved frontispiece portrait of Alexander Hamilton.

Eighteenth-century calf, smooth spine numbered in gilt and ruled in gilt in compartments, gilt black morocco lettering piece, boards with gilt double rule, board edges tooled in gilt, edges sprinkled. A few instances of light foxing, heavier to preliminary and terminal leaves and frontispiece. Short worm tracks to bottom of title, frontis, and front endpapers. A few minor abrasions to boards and slight discoloring, bumped and rubbed at corners and joints. Overall, a very good copy.

"In these documents are constellated more than the learning and the wisdom of other days. The native, the original conceptions of this creative genius, give life and light to every subject. Every page bears its own peculiar testimony to the vastness of his mind - the soundness of his judgment - the clearness of his views - and the integrity of his heart. The humblest peasant, who loves his country and participates in her weal and wo, as well as the statesman and politician whose feelings and interests are more particularly identified with the subject, will read these Reports with mingled wonder and delight" (from the Preface).

Volume I includes from Hamilton: Report on Public Credit; Report on a National Bank; On the Constitutionality of a National Bank; Report on the Subject of Manufactures; and a Report on the Establishment of a Mint. The Federalist appeared in Volumes II and III (not present here).

    Ford, Bibliotheca Hamiltonia, 116.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
