The Large Passion was issued complete in 1511. However, the plates were made at different times. Seven of the eleven woodcuts were made before 1500 (including this one) and circulated as single prints. The other four were made in 1510 and completed in 1511 with a frontispiece and a commentary in Latin by Benedict Schwelbe.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
