    Description

Albert Einstein and Leopold Infeld. The Evolution of Physics. The growth of ideas from early concepts to relativity and quanta. New York: Simon and Schuster, 1938. First American edition, fourth printing. Signed by Einstein to the front free endpaper recto. Octavo. 319, [3] pages. Publisher's blue cloth stamped in gilt, spine lettered in gilt; original dust jacket. Corners just bumped, minor edgewear, head and foot of spine pushed, spine sunned, somewhat rubbed, small blue ink notation to upper board, minor soiling. Yellow endpapers; unevenly toned. Internally generally clean and tight, all edges trimmed, top edges stained black (but faded); minor intermittent soiling, text block edges toned with minor wear. Dust jacket unclipped ($2.50); minor edgewear, chipping to head and foot of spine panel, dampstain to head of spine panel, top edge toned. Very good book with very good dust jacket.

Einstein and Infeld collaborated on this text with the aim of creating an introductory text tracing the development of physics concepts, specifically for the general public. The book was quite successful and went on to be featured in a cover story for Time magazine.
