Agatha Christie. "The Lost Mine" Carbon Typescript. [London: circa 1923]. Original manuscript, fifteen partially numbered leaves. Signed by Christie on title sheet. Fourteen carbon typescript leaves of text with cover sheet (10 x 7.875 inches; 253 x 198 mm.). Text on rectos only. Fifteen loose sheets side-stitched with red ribbon into red cardstock folio; front with paper label from literary agent pasted down, with title and author typewritten beneath a bit of penciling. Housed in custom red cloth clamshell with black leather spine label stamped in gilt. Wrappers softly creased and darkened around edges, with a handful of short tears along bottom edge and split starting at foot of center fold; a bit of light soiling and rubbing; slight chip out of lower corner of front wrapper; front label just starting to curl at two corners. Minor wear at edges of interior sheets from handling; normal age toning; holograph corrections in pencil scattered throughout. Very good. "The Lost Mine" made its first appearance in The Sketch magazine as part of the 21 November 1923 issue, and was later collected in Poirot's Early Cases, published in 1974.
