DescriptionAbraham Lincoln: 1849 Patent Report Book. Report of the Commissioner of Patents for the year 1849. Part I Arts and Manufactures. Washington, Office of Printers To House of Reps, 1850. Hardcover, 624pp., scattered foxing to inside covers, wear to spine, a solid copy. On page 262 is a patent granted to Abraham Lincoln, No. 6469, for an "Improved method of lifting Vessels over Shoals". While this sounds like a great idea, the invention was never used or put into production. Lincoln, while not so successful in business, did go on to have a pretty good political career! With that said, he is the only President to have ever been granted a patent.
