    Description

    A. P. Jackson and E. C. Cole. Oklahoma!, Politically and Topographically Described. History and Guide to the Indian Territory. Kansas City, MO: Publishing House of Ramsey, Millett & Hudson, 1885. First edition, 12mo, [2, blank], 150 pages, with advertisements at back. 19 plates, illustrations, folding map bound in at front. Bound in dark brown leather, with original pictorial wrappers present, gilt lettering and decoration on spine, raised bands. Exceedingly rare copy with map as issued.

Jackson and Cole argue that Oklahoma lands argue that the Oklahoma Territory is public land and should be open to settlement. Written in the context of the post-Civil War struggle for expansion with the conflicting interests of the railroads and cattle barons versus prospective settlers. Jackson and Cole take the side of the settlers.

Condition: Pages lightly toned throughout, small repairs made to inner front paper cover. Bound soundly. Overall good.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
