Octavo. viii, 844 pages. 12 plates (mostly photographic), numerous text illustrations (scenes and portraits, engraved and photographic, some full-page). Publisher's red post-fire buckram (most copies were destroyed in a fire, the post-fire copies were issued in red buckram) with titles stamped in gilt on the spine.

    "132 accounts of early pioneers, mostly as told by them directly to Sowell... Most of the work, however, relates to Indian fights and Texas Rangers." (Jenkins, Basic Texas Books).

    Condition: Very good. Some darkening to spine. Hinges repaired with tape. Otherwise a tight, clean copy.
