One of Only 350 Copies, Signed by Milne and Shepard

    A. A. Milne. Winnie-the-Pooh. With decorations by Ernest H. Shepard. London: Methuen & Co., [1926].

Limited to 350 copies on hand-made paper, of which this is number 259, signed by the author and the illustrator. Large octavo. xi, 158 pages. With numerous illustrations and a fold-out map in back.

Publisher's dark blue cloth over light blue paper boards, with printed label to front cover. Upper cloth spine almost imperceptibly sunned, minor discoloration to lower cloth backstrip on rear cover. Very minor wear to tips of corners. Overopened slightly at pages 64/65. Bookplate of Paul Hyde Bonner on front pastedown. In the original pale blue dust jacket, now lightly soiled and with front and rear panels faded, and with spine darkened; with a three-quarter-inch piece missing at head of spine and with lesser chipping along edges at folds. A bright, near fine copy in a worn, but largely intact, dust jacket. A lovely edition of the children's classic.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
