    A. A. Milne. When We Were Very Young. London: Methuen & Co., [1924]. First edition, second state of the contents leaf with the pagination (ix) present. Octavo (7.375 x 5 inches; 186 x 126 mm.). x, [2, fly-title (verso blank)], 99, [1] pages; in-text illustrations by Ernest Shepard. Publisher's blue cloth, boards stamped in gilt, spine lettered in gilt. Top edge gilt, others rough-trimmed; plain endpapers. In the original dust jacket. Spine very gently leaning; spine ends rubbed; backstrip just a shade dulled; mild bubbling to the cloth around the edges of the rear board; corners with just a touch of wear. Text with some sporadic faint marginal soiling; a few leaves with some very soft creasing; free endpapers somewhat discolored along the hinge, front free endpaper with a touch of soiling; over-opened at between the first and second gatherings. Dust jacket front flap slightly soiled (matching that of the front free endpaper); only a hint of rubbing. A very good, or better, copy in a nearly fine dust jacket. A stunning example.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
