One of 350 numbered copies on handmade paper, signed by both the author and illustrator, this copy being No. 203. Small quarto (8.75 x 7 inches; 221 x 180 mm.). xi, [1, blank], 178, [1], [1, printer's imprint] pages. Text illustrations. Original quarter light blue buckram over cream-colored paper over boards with printed paper label on front cover. Top corners lightly bumped; foot of spine very slightly bumped. Faint foxing to top edge and printed paper label. Endpapers a bit darkened. The boards are exceptionally clean. Small newspaper clipping attached to front free endpaper with cellophane tape. A few leaves unevenly opened; a few leaves with very slight creasing. Faint stain to outer margin of 27; tiny stain to lower margin of pages 130 and 131. Stray pencil mark at lower edge of rear free endpaper. Otherwise a near fine copy. In the original pale blue dust jacket printed in dark blue on front cover and spine (jacket slightly soiled; spine darkened; short tear and a few tiny chips to top edge of spine and rear panel; slight curling to lower edge of rear panel and foot of spine; small piece chipped from lower edge at front flap fold; tape residue and a small piece of cellophane tape on front flap). Housed in an orange cloth chemise and quarter burnt orange morocco gilt over orange cloth boards slipcase. Slipcase spine ruled in blind and lettered in gilt with five raised bands. Slipcase spine darkened somewhat, with a few small dark spots; upper corner of front panel bumped. Small bookseller's ticket of Philip C. Duschnes Rare Books mounted inside back panel of chemise.
