Rare Signed Edition of A. A. Milne

    A. A. Milne. Now We Are Six: With Decorations by Ernest H. Shepard. London: Methuen & Co. Ltd., [1927].

First edition, limited to 20 copies on Japanese vellum of which this is numbered 18 and signed by Milne and Shepard on limitation page. Octavo. 103 pages. Text illustrations.

Custom half red morocco with red cloth boards and five raised bands by Sangorski & Sutcliffe. Six compartments with gilt ruling and titles. Gilt top edge with remaining edges untrimmed. Modest rubbing with two small spots of soiling on boards. Endpapers mildly offset from binding. Pages lightly toned. Small red stain on bottom edge of rear free endpaper, probably caused by a bit of glue from binding. Hand-bill from an exhibition of Shepard's drawings used to illustrate title is laid in. An overall fine copy of this scarce edition.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
