Description

1644 Printed Letter Concerning the Siege at York A copy of A Letter Sent From The Lo: Fairfax to the Major of Hull; and by him sent to the Committee of both Kingdoms: Concerning the Great Victory obtained against Prince Rupert about the Raising the Siege at York. Also a true Relation of a Defeat given to Colonell Hastings by the Lord Grayes Forces, July the First, 1644 at Bosworth Field, in the very place where King Richard the Third was slain. With the names of such Commanders and Souldiers (sic) as were slain and taken. Printed for Edward Husbands (London: 1644), eight pages, no wraps, 12mo (5.5" x 7.25"). Fairfax was a parliamentary general who was driven from York after an unsuccessful siege against the Royalists; later after joining the Scots, he was successful in taking the city. This letter details the second battle, and its successful outcome. Also included are several lists of soldiers and supplies that were taken during a battle at Bosworth Field. Bosworth Field was the site of a famous battle during the War of the Roses which was fought in the 15th century. Richard III, the last of the Plantagenet dynasty, fell in this battle and the House of Tudor assumed the throne. A wonderful printing full of historical references and facts waiting to be delved into!

The printed document is in good condition; disbound; missing wraps; tears along vertical edges; dark staining present on edges.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
