[William Tecumseh Sherman] Sherman's March from Atlanta to the Sea. Unpaginated, 7.5" x 9.5", handwritten in ink, on lined paper. Bound in black leather, paper has gilt edges. The book is written on every other page and is a firsthand account of the march toward Savannah. Divided into four chapters beginning with "Preliminary Steps to the March"; "Objects of the March"; "Progress of the March"; and finally "Results of the March." It ends with a tribute to a soldier, his name being inscribed on the final page, "Samuel Strangham of the 53rd Indiana Volunteers," which is enclosed in a border of ink on all sides. Cover is well worn with the foot of the spine being gone completely. Front board is coming off of the spine at the top and bottom. Text is clear and nicely written with very little toning on the pages. Otherwise in very fine condition.
