Description[William Shakespeare]. [Second Folio]. The Life of King Henry the Fift. and The firft Part of King Henry the Sixt. and The fecund Part of King Henry the Sixt. vvith the death of the Good Duke HVMFREY. and The third Part of King Henry the Sixt. vvith the death of the Duke of YORKE. [from Mr. VVilliam Shakespeares comedies, histories, and tragedies : Published according to the true originall copies, also known as the Second Folio. London: Printed by Tho. Coates, for Robert Allot, and are to be fold at the signe of the Blacke Beare in Pauls Church-yard, 1632]. Indeterminate issue, lacking title or other preliminaries. Folio (12.625 x 8.5 inches; 321 x 213 mm.). 69-172 pages. Head- and tail-pieces; initials. Late Victorian or early twentieth-century three-quarter blue morocco over blue cloth, spine lettered in gilt with two raised bands toward spine ends; text block edges trimmed, top edge appears to have been stained black. Minor insect damage and shelf wear to binding. Text block softly dulled, as expected, particularly unstained edges; mild soiling and spot-staining scattered throughout interior, with a handful of inked textual corrections and annotations appearing more frequently toward end of text block; small tear at lower margin of l4; a few page edges beginning to nick and flake, particularly at lower corners. Very good overall. The Second Folio, appearing nine years after the First, corrected textual errors made in the original printing and marks the first time John Milton's work (unattributed) in print.
