Sixteenmo (3.5 x 4.25 inches; 89 x 108 mm). [16] leaves with hand-colored engraved frontispiece and seven hand-colored engravings. Uniformly bound with the below in brown crushed morocco, decorated and lettered in gilt; a little rubbed. Green marbled linen endpapers, all edges trimmed (some closely). Partial ink inscription to recto of frontispiece. A bit toned, some scattered foxing, trimmed closely on top of pages and engravings. With Lilly Library accession plate to recto of rear free endpaper. Very good.

Sixteenmo (3.75 x 4.25 inches; 95 x 108 mm). [16] leaves with hand-colored engraved frontispiece and four hand-colored engravings. Uniformly bound with the above in brown crushed morocco, decorated and lettered in gilt; a little rubbed. Green marbled linen endpapers, all edges trimmed (some closely). A bit toned, some scattered foxing, trimmed closely on top of pages and engravings. Bookplate of Charles Todd Owen to front pastedown. Very good.

    Rare copy of this edition of The Diverting History of John Gilpin, a very popular comic ballad written by the English poet William Cowper (1731-1800). Also rare is this version of The Humourous Story of Mrs. Gilpin's Return from Edmonton, written by the English author and bookseller Henry Lemoine (1756-1812), which was first published in 1784.
