Description[Unknown]. Thomas Campbell. The Pleasures of Hope. With other poems. Edinburgh: Printed by John Brown for Doig & Sterling; et al., 1813. Seemingly contemporary fore-edge painting depicting "Tabley House, Knutsford Cheshire," artist unknown. 16mo in eights. 131 pages. Samuel Welcher binding; contemporary straight grain red morocco decorated in gilt and blind, spine decorated in blind and gilt with four raised bands and partial gilt roll to edges. Moderate edgewear, soiling and staining to lower half of upper board. Green endpapers, binder's ticket to front pastedown, minor soiling, ink gift inscription to front free endpaper recto. Internally generally clean and tight, all edges gilt; light pencil notations, some offsetting, somewhat foxed, minor text block edgewear. Very good with detailed and well-preserved fore-edge painting.
