Fore-edge painting depicting four women playing instruments and dancing in a garden in a Victorian Pre-Raphaelite style, artist unknown. Complete in one volume. Octavo. 587 pages. Illustrated with frontispiece and engraved title page. Contemporary full red morocco decorated in gilt and blind, gilt decorated spine with 5 raised bands to spine and gilt roll to edges. Corners bumped, moderate edgewear, somewhat rubbed. Inner dentelles gilt, armorial bookplate of William Deane to front pastedown, pencil notations to front endpapers, front hinge weak, minor soiling to endpapers. Internally generally clean, all edges gilt; some foxing chiefly contained to front and back of text block, some text block edgewear. Very good with bright, well-preserved fore-edge painting.
