Seemingly contemporary fore-edge painting depicting Dryburgh Abbey, the burial site of Sir Walter Scott, artist unknown. Two volumes bound in one. Octavo. 164, [4] pages. Engraved general title page, each section with separate title pages and imprints: Ballads and Lyrical Pieces (Edinburgh: Longman, Hurst, Rees, and Orme, et al., 1810, fourth edition) and The Vision of Don Roderick and Other Poems (Edinburgh: Longman & Co., et al., 1811, second edition). Taylor and Hessey binding; full red straight grain morocco decorated in gilt and blind, spine decorated in gilt with six raised bands, partial decorative gilt roll to edges with binder's stamp in gilt to fore-edge. Seemingly recased, corners just bumped, moderate edgewear, spine darkened, joints starting, somewhat rubbed and soiled. Inner dentelles gilts, brown endpapers; armorial bookplate of Frederick William Cosens to front pastedown, front hinge weak, rear hinge starting, somewhat foxed and soiled. All edges gilt; foxed, moderate wear to edges. Good or better with bright and charming, though somewhat worn, fore-edge painting.
